Summer Opportunities

An intensive four-week summer residential program for students who have demonstrated an aptitude for academic and professional careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) subjects. See more information here.

Engage STEM (San Jose/Morgan Hill Chapter)
Engage STEM is planning a virtual STEM summer camp from June 14, 2021–August 6, 2021. We are looking for counselors to lead our biology, ecology, astronomy, and computer science workshops. Counselors will be able to earn official volunteer hours and experience working with kids. The days are flexible and this opportunity would be great to put on college applications.

National River Cleanup (Virtual)
A great volunteer opportunity! This is a national day of action to protect our rivers, watersheds, and wildlife from trash and debris. This year there will be cleanups every Saturday in May from 9am–noon. Since its inception in 1991, American Rivers have engaged in more than 1.3 million volunteers who have participated in thousands of cleanup across the country, covering more than 261,000 miles of waterways, and removing more than 32.5 million pounds of litter and debris.

Science Internship Program
SIP is a summer-long (10 weeks) research internship program at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) for high school students in STEM. The program allows students to work with UCSC faculty, graduate students, and post-doctoral students on real research projects. See more information here.

South Bay Youth Changemakers
NBYC is recruiting for the second annual summer program. They are training a cohort of motivated, passionate young people from across the South Bay to become youth leaders who will lead SBYC's work year-round. They are looking for high school-age youth (14–18) from the South Bay. Youth of color are encouraged to apply, especially Asian youth. Participants will partake in educational workshops, work with partner organizations, and learn hands-on skills. Applications are due by 5/16/21.
